Our Mission
“Provide quality civil concrete construction services at a greater value than the competition by providing expert craftsmanship and management on the field, and superior clerical, estimating, and value-engineering support off the field.”
Our Industries
Public Works
Public Works
NCDOT, FAA, and Local Municipal projects all differ in their concrete requirements whether it be design, general standards, or specifications. Lean on our experience to navigate the constantly changing public works industry.
Commercial Projects
Commercial Projects
We’re accustomed to a full spectrum of commercial project sizes and scope, be it a small site like a local bank branch, or a megasite like a stadium. We have the financial, human, and mechanical resources and flexibility to accommodate the Triangle’s growing needs.
Residential Tract Development
Residential Tract Development
Quickly turning out curb and flatwork on residential development tracts are a top priority for our clients, and it just happens to be one of our specialties.
We Are An MBE / DBE Business
What Our Certifications Mean for Your Project
Certified Concrete Construction has been family-owned since 1997, and the certifications behind the name are the practical reason general contractors put us on a bid list. We are MBE/DBE certified — a Minority Business Enterprise and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise — which lets contractors count our scope toward participation goals on publicly funded work. We meet the pervious concrete installer requirement recommended by the NRMCA, one of a short list of Triangle contractors that does. We work fluently in NCDOT highway PCCP and FAA P-501 airport pavement specifications, including slipform paving on both. And we specialize in ADA compliance: curb and gutter, switchback sidewalks, and ramp retrofits on sites where engineered slope tolerances leave almost no margin for error.
Our History
Founded in 1997 by Roger and Carmen Sousa, the company has built a lasting reputation for quality and craftsmanship. Decades later, the legacy continues through their son, Johnny Sousa, and the amazing team around him who carry on the commitment to delivering exceptional work and upholding the values the business was built on.
The Turnkey Advantage
As construction gets more specialized, most concrete scopes get subcontracted several tiers down — which is where communication gaps and disputed scope live. We took the opposite route. Our managers and craftsmen are cross-trained across overlapping services, so one company handles demolition, curb, flatwork, paving, walls, steps, and repair. Practically, that means we catch conflicts between plan elevations and actual field conditions before the pour, and we absorb plan changes without a chain of subcontractors renegotiating. We also own the equipment that controls cost: 3D laser screeds for grade-profiled pavement, slipform and fixed-form pavers, and hand-placement crews for tight sites. Clients can hire us turnkey, or take operator-and-machine pricing to supplement their own forces.
What We Self-Perform
Because we run our own crews and equipment, the scope list is unusually wide for a single concrete contractor: curb and gutter by hand or machine, driveway aprons and monolithic islands, ADA sidewalks and ramp retrofits, steps of every type (cheek walls, chamfered, nosings, radius, switchback), architectural seat walls including integrally colored radial walls, retaining and structural walls, decorative finishes (stamped, stained, exposed aggregate, sand blast), pervious concrete, BMP water-control structures such as spillways, level spreaders and retention slabs, and full demolition, replacement and repair. Paving is placed with 3D laser screeds, slipform or fixed-form pavers, or by hand, depending on what the site allows. One contract, one accountable crew, no finger-pointing between trades.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Certified Concrete Construction a minority-owned business?
Yes. We are MBE/DBE certified in North Carolina, so our scope can count toward DBE participation goals on public projects.
Do you install residential driveways and patios?
No. We are a civil and commercial concrete contractor. Our residential work is tract development curb and flatwork for homebuilders, not one-off homeowner jobs.
How long has Certified Concrete Construction been in business?
Since 1997, when Roger and Carmen Sousa founded the company in Raleigh. It is now led by their son, Johnny Sousa.
Do you work outside the Raleigh Triangle?
Our standard operating area is Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, but projects outside the Triangle are considered case by case.
Can you supplement our own crews instead of taking the full scope?
Yes. We offer operator-and-machine pricing on laser screeding and slipform paving to expedite production timelines alongside your forces.
